My computer and belly are full!

In George Washington’s days, there were no cameras. One’s image was either sculpted or painted. Some paintings of George Washington showed him standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed both legs and both arms. Prices charged by painters were not based on how many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be painted. Arms and legs are “limbs,” therefore painting them would cost the buyer more. Hence the expression, “Okay, but it’ll cost you an arm and a leg.”

I have come across the genesis of some of these types of sayings and will thus forth put one in each of the next several updates. Some of them are from emails and other web sources so don’t bet your lives on them but I figured that some interesting info would be appealing to my readers. If you know of a differing story for anything I put on here then by all means, let us all know in the Comments section.

Newsflash! Some of you think that I cannot eat enough food to become full. It is logically unlikely that my appetite is a bottomless pit but it certainly can seem like it even to me at times. Well tonight I was given a reality check proving I am still human. I had a big late lunch and then ate at Mac Grill with Garrett. When I go there to eat as a guest, one other person and I get half price on almost everything. We ate two loaves of bread, I had three no ice glasses of Dr. Pepper, one of the biggest meals in the house and over half a dessert. I could not believe how full I was! My head was flush and my abdomen was swollen. For the next two hours I could barely breathe or think. I normally stop when I am “satisfied” in my meal mainly because that’s all I can afford. But when one eats for half price, I went all out. And I paid for it. Mild pun intended.

Many of you know that I have a laptop computer. It’s an HP with an AMD 64 bit processor and ¾ Gig of RAM. It’s pretty beast. But it only has 40 Gigs of hard drive memory. With my digital pictures, movies, and music I realized that I was soon going to run out of space very quickly. I only had 2 gigs left and upgrading on a laptop can be rather pricey so the best bet is to get an external hard drive. Ryan just happens to have one of these in the form of an iPod. He bought a 20 Gig a while back and then got a free Mini when he got his PowerBook. He is graciously letting me use the iPod while I live here in Lexington. So not only do I get to have an external hard drive to free up lots of space on my laptop, I get to have an iPod for my car and (if I ever decide to do such) running.

Lots of the NEW PICTURES in the Lex section are from last week when William and I went to Raven Run. It is a nature preserve like 10 miles outside of Lexington. We spent nearly three hours hiking and exploring the 4 mile loop trail. It was over 60 degrees and nearly perfect for hiking. Because it had snowed the past week there was a lot more water in the creeks and waterfalls than normal at this time of year. It made me want to live out on my own Walden Pond and live the simple life and read and write books. Now all I have to do is find a woman who would want to live with me in that sort of life…
