So after the Super Bowl finished here at the Frith/me residence, I went upstairs to escape the TV. I don’t know, nothing inside of me wanted to watch the boob tube tonight. I however did see a couple of hilarious commercials and one or two cool ones. One was for this new movie “V for Vendetta” put out by the Andy and Larry Wachowski who did the Matrix. Try to say their names five times fast right now before you continue reading on. Do it! I double dare you. Anyway, I saw the trailer and it said “Remember, remember the fifth of November.” Since that is my birthday I was intrigued and very excited and looked up where that came from.

Remember, remember the fifth of November
The gunpowder treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.

Guy Fawkes, twas his intent
To blow up king and parliament.
Three score barrels were laid below
To prove old England’s overthrow.

By God’s mercy he was catched
With a dark lantern and lighted match.
Holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the King.

Apparently this “guy” from 1605 is the most famous British traitor. He would be like our Benedict only worse. Every year on Nov 5th, the Brits set up big bonfires and burn effigies of Guy Fawkes. What a way to be remembered!

I have always loved Calvin and Hobbes. The philosophers are nice too but what I’m referring to is the comic by Bill Watterson. I have a couple of anthologies books of it, but I was informed that there is a COMPLETE series collection. I looked on Amazon and it costs 95 with a 2-4 month wait or 150 now. I most assuredly do NOT have that kind of money but if any of you do or if anyone would love to be my valentine, I would so amazingly appreciate it!!

Work at the Mac Shack is going well and the money is starting to come in slowly but surely. Reading has still been low as of late but my love for chess has been up. You Virginia people should call me. I miss you guys!
PS. I now have flannel sheets and eight layers on top between me and the outside world. Cold, do your worst!

  2. i just realized that the reason it says 2-4 months before delivery is because they only printed limited quantities, but more will be printed in April. There’s an awesome complete edition of The Far Side, too. I’m really tempted to buy them… must resist… need… job first…. agh!!
